In January and February, we completed our first Shaping Sustainable Futures residentials, welcoming lots of 16-24 year olds to Trafford Hall!
Funded by Centrica’s Energy for Tomorrow fund, the programme allows young people to take part in a range of activities, aiming to help them improve their confidence, build new skills, try new things, and learn about green careers.
We use the amazing natural surroundings at Trafford Hall to encourage young people to consider their impact on the world around them. Following the residential they must work together to create and deliver an environmentally focused programme for their local community.
So far, young people that have completed the programme have started working on projects to raise awareness and increase recycling of single-use vapes and start community food growing projects.
While they deliver their projects, they have the support of a dedicated mentor from the programme and their youth workers.
Speaking about the programme, one young person said: “I feel as though I have changed a lot, and it has made me change my mind on environmental impacts.”
Watch this space for updates on how the groups get on with their projects!
